October 14th, 2006: Memorial services were held for the Rev. Canon Sanford Garner Jr. at the Washington National Cathedral, Washington, D.C. In association with Coventry Cathedral, U.K., and as a Companion of the Order of the Cross of Nails of Coventry Cathedral, he assisted in the establishment of The House of Hope, a peace center for Palestinian and Israeli youth in Galilee in the 1970s.
Sunday, 24th September, 2006: Heritage Day will go down in the memory of many of the Protea Village Community [South Africa] as a special day to remember. After 11 years since submitting their claim for the return of their land & 40 years since the Community was forcibly removed, justice is being done.
March 17-19, 2006: The Rev. Thee Smith (CCN-North America board member) co-organized a conference, "Southern Exposure: A Regional Summit on Racial Violence & Reconciliation." This first annual event was held at the William Winter Institute for Racial Reconciliation at the Univ. of Mississippi at Oxford. Thee Smith has worked with other members of the Community of the Cross of Nails Atlanta chapter based at the Cathedral of St. Philip to sponsor the conference. Other partnering organizations include the Winter Institute at Ole Miss and the Birmingham Pledge organization in Birmingham, as a regional collaboration of racial reconciliation partners (See www.birminghampledge.org)
The Southern Exposure conference is for all individuals interested in the South's efforts to build community and promote justice and racial reconciliation. Van Kussrow in Hendersonville,
NC. The homily was given by The Rev. H. Alexander Viola, retired rector of
St. James Episcopal Church. Dr. Kussrow was made a Companion of the Order in
1970 and served as president of the CCN-USA for many years.
January 2006: Historic Christ Church, Alexandria, Virginia featured a forum series in January 2006 entitled “Reconciliation: No Longer an Option”. Bernard Nolan spoke at the January 15 session and presented the CD covering the September 11, 2005 dedication of a Cross of Nails to St. Paul's Chapel, Trinity Parish, in New York City. Christ Church's January program led up to the January 30 – February 1, 2006 meeting at Trinity Church in NY: The Anatomy of Reconciliation: From Violence to Healing.
September 11, 2005: St. Paul's Chapel (Parish of Trinity Church) became a CCN-North America center.
February 2005: Fuller Theological Society hosted Payton Lectures February 22-24, 2005. Theophus Smith, associate professor of religion at Emory University, spoke each day in Fuller's Travis Auditorium at 10:00 a.m. The theme this year was, "Return to Divine Providence: Essaying a Theology of Providence Today." Ecumenical Theological Fraternity in Israel: On June 17, 1999, at the Ratisbonne Institute in Jerusalem, and in the presence of local Christian and Jewish personalities, the Coventry Cross of Nails was presented to the Ecumenical Theological Fraternity in Israel.
Joining a representative of the Japanese government in a pilgrimage for peace and reconciliation in the final weeks of his term, Presiding Bishop Edmond Browning preached at Coventry Cathedral in England on October 5, 1997.
Peace in Northern Ireland: On Saturday 16 March, 1996, Cardinal Cahal Brendan Daly celebrated Mass in St Michael's Anglican Cathedral, Coventry, England, with the local Irish community.
Christ Church Cathedral, Montreal, Quebec, was presented a Cross of Nails in 1953 by the Provost of Coventry Cathedral in England.
